1. Dubai Announces New Data Protection Law

The Dubai International Financial Centre, in the United Arab Emirates, has a new data protection law, which entered into force on 8 January 2007.  The law, designed to comply with EU and OECD standards, is administered by a newly-appointed Data Protection Commissioner, Dr Nasser Saidi, who is now in the process of drafting Regulations to implement the law.

He explained the background to the law in an exclusive interview with PL&B, to be published next week in PL&B International Newsletter 86, our 20th anniversary issue, available only to subscribers.

This issue will also include the EU Data Protection Superviser's ultimatum to the European Central Bank on US scrutiny of SWIFT transactions.
